The Cebu Provincial Government will grant a P5 million cash assistance to the Sinulog Foundation, Inc. for this year’s Sinulog Festival celebration.
This is on top of the P3 million financial support given by the previous administration for last year’s Sinulog intended for 2019.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia explained that Capitol’s assistance for Sinulog 2019 was approved by the Provincial Board on June 2019 and got caught up with the transitional changes in administration following the May elections.
“The P3 million was passed in June. Since closing days na, wala na to ma-issue-hi ug cheque. So we gave it a go-signal (for the release of the P3 million). Unya lahi pud atong itabang. For this administration, we will be helping with P5 million,” she told reporters during a press conference on Tuesday, January 14.
Garcia earlier said this is Capitol's chance to repay the support of the City Government which provided great help for the successful relaunching of the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo last August 2019.
Aside from monetary assistance, the governor also promised to provide medical support during the Sinulog festivities as a token of appreciation to the City Government.
Capitol will be playing a big part in the festivities as the governor will once again grace the Sinulog stage but this time, she will be joined by Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella.
This is the first time in the 40 years of Sinulog’s history that the two local government executives of Cebu City and Cebu Province will perform in a dance together.
“It is such a powerful symbol of hope for the Cebuanos seeing their two leaders together, in a dance offering for our beloved Sto. Niño,” Gov. Garcia said.
She expressed her gratitude to Mayor Labella for his commitment to join the Sinulog Grand Parade Showdown on January 19 at the Cebu City Sports Center.
“I am grateful to Mayor Ed (Labella) for joining us. This, I believe, is for all Cebuanos and even for the entire country to appreciate. When there is unity, there is so much you can achieve,” she said.
The two local executives will be joined by most of the members of the Provincial Board and the Capitol department heads and backed up by the dancers of Alcoy town’s Siloy Festival.
Renowned Cebuano choreographer and stage director Victor Hao Cuenco will be in-charge of the artistic concept of the Capitol performers. (Eleanor Valeros)
