A total of 1,744 barangay tanods in Cebu’s 1st district received their cash incentives last January 17.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led the distribution of cash incentives inside the Minglanilla Sports Complex along with the elected officials of the district.

The barangay tanods in the 1st district were the first to receive the cash incentives from the Provincial Government.

“Kining inyong pagsalig nga gihatag ako kining giisip nga balaanon kaayo nga tulumanon nga ako usab baslan ang maong pagsalig… hunahunaa nga aduna nay inahan karon nga nagtan-aw sa inyong kahimtang ug nasayod sa inyong mga panginahanglan,” Garcia said.

Tanods received P3,000 cash and tanod kits which contained a baton, whistle, flashlight, and belt bag. In addition, tanods are now covered by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) group accident insurance. Distribution of their T-shirts which will serve as their uniform will follow.

Narcisa Catagcatag, 56, of Campo 4, Talisay City, who has been assigned at Camp 4 Elementary School for two years, said she is proud being the only woman among 20 barangay tanods in their place.

“Proud ko nga gihimo ko nilang barangay tanod. Sa ilang pagsalig nga mu gwardya sa mga kabataan,” Catagcatag stated.

The P3,000-cash incentive given by the Cebu Provincial Government is a great help, she said, because she can use this for school expenses of her 14-year-old daughter.

Earlier, the Cebu Provincial Government also distributed cash incentives to all Barangay Health Workers (BHW), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), Barangay Animal Health Aides (BAHA), and Barangay Day Care Workers (BDCW). (Mylen P. Manto)
