Getting relief goods that are not just canned sardines offers quite a relief.

The Cebu CFI Community Cooperative donated the first batch of around 400,000 cans of beef loaf and corned beef for the local government units of the Province of Cebu last April 13.

The first batch of 1,000 boxes with 100 cans of Sunpride corned beef and beef loaf were turned over to the Cebu Provincial Government by Atty. Winston F. Garcia, former president and general manager of the Government Service Insurance Corporation, and now chairman of CFI.

"Maayo ni kay ASF-free," the governor quipped. ASF stands for African swine fever of which Cebu Province has existing ordinances to avert the entry of the virus into the hog-raising industry.

"Nindot sad ni kay wa gyud ta manghangyo. Kabubut-on gyud ni sa CFI," she added.

Meanwhile, the officers of Cebu Lions Club District 301-B2 met with the governor for the turnover of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Donations by the Lions and Lionesses Foundation worth P200,000 include 250 pieces of face shields, 400 sets of disposable PPE overall suits, 3000 pieces of disposable gloves, 3000 pieces of disposable head covers, and 40 pieces of goggles.

According to Lioness president Lucia Lim Chiong Sy the donation is a commitment since the club is involved in socio-civic works. They feel that PPE supply is urgent to support needs of frontliners fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. (Eleanor Valeros)
