The Provincial Government will be calling an emergency meeting with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Health (DOH) this afternoon, Monday, following the reported arrival of 232 Cebuano seafarers in Cebu tomorrow, Tuesday.
This as Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said she was surprised when she received information that the seafarers will be arriving in Cebu only through Facebook messenger.
"Mao na dako nako nga concern karon kay nakalitan ko kay diha ra nako nakit-an, ug di pa gyud ni formal, nga nabasahan sa messenger kagahapon nga naa kuno 232 kabuok moabot," Garcia said during the KBP Radio Marathon on Covid-19 Monday morning, April 27.
She said she was able to talk with a representative from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) this morning and castigated them for failing to coordinate with her office earlier.
Garcia said OWWA should have coordinated with local officials first before deciding to repatriate them because local officials may not welcome their presence in their localities.
She added that of the 232 seafarers, 120 are from Cebu City and according to OWWA they will be quarantined in Cebu City and Cordova town.
"Kay napraning na intawon ning mga tawo ug nasigpaniguro na ni sila'g proteher sa ilang mga lugar nga mangahadlok kun makakita og naa laing mga tawo moabot aning ilang mga lugar," she said.
She said her meeting with the PNP and the DOH will discuss the protocols that will be followed once the seafarers arrive at the Cebu port and how they will be quarantined without risking the lives of people.
"So I'm calling emergency meeting with PNP ug DOH aron ma establish ang protocols ug unsaon pag quarantine nga ang atong mga constituents di ma expose aning mga tawhana," the governor said.
She said she hoped that this matter will be resolved before the seafarers' arrival at about 2 a.m. Tuesday. (Vanessa L. Almeda)
